My print Ziyangu Ngapa, cockatoo bird is shown sitting on a wongai tree branch. This birds feather are used to make our torres strait head dress. The wongai tree is a delicacy for the cockatoo and the torres strait islanders alike. This fruit is local to the torres strait island region. The white feathers of the cockatoo signifies the spiritual connection of our people from the living to the unloving (our spiritual ancestors) who we believe to be in the skies star above us, which is why I call my print the cockatoo, Ziyangu Ngapa, from the sky.
