My new lino print called "Githalai" (mud crab) I did because it's one of my favourite seafoods since small and I grew up eating it
When I was young we would search for our own food so everyday we'd look for mud crabs in the creeks , on the mud flats and among the mangrove tree roots
The 'Githalai" as a Cultural Story Our People passed down to Us when young saying that the githalai wasn't allowed to be given to a pregnant woman to eat
The Cultural Knowledge was if the woman ate githalai while pregnant the woman would have labour complications and the baby would crawl backwards when giving birth
One other Cultural Knowledge passed down about the pregnant women eating githalai was that the baby would have excessive saliva.
