This new lino print of mine called "Malunu (on the sea) is based on the marine life and fisheries around Our island home Badu, we have alot of fishies, shellfish, and sea mammals in Our Waters.
The two I identified in my lino print the dugong and the turtle are only two of many. The reason I included them because we protecting them from over fishing with Our People having dugong and turtle management plans in place so we can preserve them for our future generations to come.
Around Badu when you're traveling in the dinghies, you can see lots of turtle tracks on Badu beaches where turtles were going up to lay eggs and going back down and swimming out to the sea again. One of Our ways of preserving the turtles is only collecting half of the turtle eggs and leaving the rest behind to hatch.
The dugongs are also plentyfull around Badu waters and one of the ways we preserve the dugongs is we only hunt for special cultural occasions and only take enough not being greedy. These two traditional food source the turtles and dugongs have always been around before I was born and are still around in abundance so it is very important for us to preserve and protect them for future generations to come bacause they play a big part in Our Cultural Practices so we respect them alot.
